The days are getting shorter and the runs are getting longer. That’s right, autumn is almost here and so is Cross Country.
Here’s a quick down and dirty reference guide to the cross country spikes and racing shoes carried by Sayville Running Company this fall:
Hyper XC - HyperRocketGirl XC

Brand: Asics
Weight: 7.9 oz mens / 6.8 oz womens
Commentary: The Asics “Hyper” series is a tride and true on the XC scene.
Kilkenny

Brand: Saucony
Weight: 6.5 oz mens / 5.5 oz womens
Commentary: The best selling spike at SRC last year, the Kilkenny has an excellent fit and a no frills feel.
Mach X

Brand: Brooks
Weight: 7.1 oz mens / 6.1 oz womens
Commentary: The Mach X is new to SRC this year after garnering rave reviews from other specialty stores around the US.
Shay XC

Brand: Saucony
Weight: 6.9 oz mens / 5.8 oz womens
Commentary: Named for former Notre Dame Cross Country All American and USA Marathon Champion Ryan Shay. Ryan was heavily involved in the design of this spike before his untimely passing during the USA Olympic Marathon Trials last fall. He was clamoring for a cross country racer with a fit in the upper that rivaled an elite track spike. Saucony obliged and decided to name the spike is his honor.
RLH

Brand: Adidas
Weight: 7.4 oz mens / 6.4 oz womens
Commentary: Major input for the development and design of this spike came from Medford native Anthony Famiglietti. RLH stands for “Run Like Hell” which has become Fam’s adopted motto.
Wave Kaze

Brand: Mizuno
Weight: 8.2 oz mens / 6.9 oz womens
Commentary: The only spike that effectively utilizes significant cushioning technology (Mizuno’s “Wave”), the Kaze has a fit and feel very similar to most of Mizuno’s trainers. It’s been fitting a half size small, so try it a bit larger than you normally would.
