A great read on SRC staff member Sean Hopkins from his former coach at Marist:

The only thing missing was the inclusion of the following picture:

Twin brothers Andrew and Bryan Knipfing are venturing on a 7 day running journey across Long Island to raise money and awareness for local poverty and hunger issues.  The twins will start in Montauk on June 1st and make their way to Queens over the course of the week.  Having competed against both brothers in high school when I ran for Sayville and they ran for Miller Place, I can assure you that they’re dedicated enough to pull this off.

Time is running out to register for the Long Island Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k or 5k. Check out TheLIMarathon.com for info.

Make sure if you are running to stop by SRC’s booth at the expo. We’ll be giving away free samples of Body Glide and raffling off a free pair of shoes!

We are officially celebrating our second anniversary of serving Long Island’s running, walking and triathlon communities.  The first two years have been an absolute blast and the next few don’t look so bad either.   Thank you for continuing to let us serve you!

Ever wonder how the pro’s train? Check out this article from the NY Times on Sara Hall (wife of last post’s subject Ryan Hall). It explains her journey from HS runner to Elite 1500m runner and gives some helpful tips from her coach Terrance Mahon along the way.

The much hyped** 2008 London Marathon was run this morning this morning and it did not dissapoint.  3 men went under 2:06 and American Ryan Hall ran a blistering 2:06:17 for 5th place in arguably one of the greatest fields in marathon history.  Hall’s time makes him the 2nd fastest American of all time at the distance behind former world record holder Khalid Khannouci.  Check out the official story from the IAAF: http://iaaf.org/LRR08/news/newsid=44425.html

Ryan Hall looks like most people do when they finish a marathon.  Tired.

*Alternate corny titles for this article include: “Hall-ing Ass” and “Hall-Mark Moment”

** By “much hyped” I mean, “hyped by those who follow these things intently, plus the NY Times ran a preview”

SRC runner Mike Petrina might be away for the year visiting his girlfriend in New Zealand (Hi Leo!), but he hasn’t let the global move affect his running.  Fortunately for us, FloTrack was able to fly down to NZ for his Kiwi debut where he won the Devonport Classic 5k.  Checkout Mike showing off his SRC uniform and setting a course record in the store team’s first international race caught on camera (Sorry Mike, Andrea was the first to race for SRC abroad, in Austria last summer.  Does Leo’s race in NYC count as international since she’s from New Zealand?):

Ryder's Sprint GlassSayville Running Company is happy to introduce a new product line to the store, Ryders Sunglasses.  Ryders are running specialty glasses that range in price from about $30 to $70.  They are offered in a large variety of colors, fits, and have options such as polarized and interchangeable lenses.  Each one of their glasses pays attentions to the little things that make the difference when you’re out on a run.  For instance, they have all anti-slip nose and ear grips to keep them from sliding on the sweatiest of faces.  Stop in and check them out for yourself or browse our collection online.
