The spandex and fleece hoodies have been packed away and the shorts and lightweight long sleeves have taken their place. With that I also ditch my trainers after a run for a nice comfortable pair of sandals.

There is nothing like feeling of taking the trainers off after a long run or post race and slipping into a comfortable pair of sandals. My ideal pair of sandals is the Rider Dunas Sandal.

The Dunas is the perfect post run and everyday flip flop with classic styling and premier comfort. The EVA lined upper utilizes synthetic leather detailing and a fabric toe separator. The sole is made of a thin layer of injection molded Flexpand and topped with a cushioned waffle-textured EVA insole.

My Wear-Tester Profile
Michael Petrina
Stats: 24 years old, 5′8″, 135 lbs.
Miles a Week: 85-100
Years Running: 11
Home: Bayport, NY
Occupation: Running Nut

Gear: Rider Dunas Sandals
Category: Footwear/Comfort
Purpose(s): To release your feet from your cramped running sneakers after a nice run or to wear around town and be the most comfortable you can be.
Silkyness* Rating: 9.25 out of 10
Reasoning: The Rider sandals are made from EVA foam, this is the same foam that is used in high end running sneakers. The EVA foam is the ultimate in shock absorption which in turn makes it extremely comfortable. Whether it is post run or everyday use, I find myself in mt Rider Sandals all the time. The comfort I find in the Rider Sandals is unmatched by any other sandal or casual shoe.

Feel free to stop by the Sayville Running Company website or in person at the store to give the Rider Dunas Sandals a try.

*Silky refers to the term that the SRC Staffers use to describe the way a product fits and feels while one is using it.

Nationwide Run For Aspire 10k

On Saturday 3/27 several members of the Sayville Running Company Racing Team were at it again. The second race on the GLIRC race calender was the Run For Aspire 10k. I would have to say that it was another great showing by the men of SRC especially the Masters Men Team. Here is a look at the SRC Racing Team Results:

3) Michael Petrina 32:40 5:16
4) Christopher Green 33:45 5:26
9) Paul Murphy 35:31 5:43 *1st Overall Master
18)Craig Banger 37:34 6:03
38)Timothy Henderson 39:52 6:25
43)Wayne Vartabedian 40:18 6:30
52)Karnik Seferian 41:02 6:37

Full Results Here

For those of you who have never run the Aspire 10k I would highly recommend it. The course is a very challenging yet fair course. It has the right mix of uphills, downhills and flat fast sections. It is a race that every runner should get out and do at least once. I am sure that the other team members would back me up on that.

Suffolk County Half Marathon

The following day (3/28) some members of the SRC team ran at the Suffolk County Half Marathon. Great results again from those team members.

1) CHRISTOPHER GREEN 1:16:20 5:50 *1st Overall
4) MARK CARBONE 1:21:30 6:14
20)KATIE DIPIETRO 1:27:59 6:43 *2nd Female Overall

Full Results Here

Great job by Chris Green who was pulling double duty, 10k and half marathon in one weekend is a pretty solid weekend. Congratulations also goes out to Katie who PRed by 2 and a half minutes over the Half Marathon distance.

Look for SRC Racing Team to be in full force over the next few weeks leading into the Long Island Marathon. Come and hang out with members of the SRC Racing at the 4th Anniversary Prediction run on April 4th at 10AM.

When I was first introduced to idea of recovering from muscle soreness with a compression method I was skeptical. I had always been old school in regards to recovery. I would punish myself by sitting in a tub full of water and ice where the temperature read somewhere around 50 degrees Fahrenheit or I would wrap my legs in 4-6 bags of ice depending on how sore my legs were and just sit on the floor for 15-20 minutes.

It was probably a little over a year ago and I was in an adventure running store in New Zealand, they were having a massive sale. I wondered down the sock aisle and the store had a section for a variety of compression socks that were marked down 75%. I grabbed a pair to give them a try. At this point what did I have to loose? If the socks didn’t work for me I would be back where I started, only now with an extra pair of socks.

I used them the first time after a 10k road race that was very hilly and grueling on my legs, especially the calves. I wore them the rest of the day and even slept in them. When I woke the next morning to my surprise my quads where still sore but my calves felt awesome. Right there and then I was sold on the idea of compression as a means of recovering from muscle soreness.

My products of choice are the R+R Piston 200 Tights and the R+R Knee High Socks by Sugoi. I now routinely use the socks after hard runs, workouts, and races. The tights are used for those days that I am feeling a little more sore then usual. All in all I have been extremely satisfied with using compression as a means of recovery.

Dearest Sayville Running Company Blog,
My name is Michael Petrina and I am the newest contributor to the Sayville Running blog. I am 24 years old, a Cancer and I like long runs on the beach at sunset. Currently I work as a full time employee at the Sayville Running Company, and as a part time Assistant Cross Country and Track coach at St. John the Baptist D.H.S. You can probably figure out that running is a major part of my life.
I look forward to sharing with the blog the many different aspects of running. I’ll share personalized sneaker reviews, team news, running news, photos, videos and much more. Without further ado my first Sayville Running Blog.

Sneaker: Saucony Grid Tangent 4
Category: Lightweight Stability Sneaker
Purpose(s): As a workout and racing sneaker
Silkyness Rating: 9.0 out of 10
Reasoning: The Grid Tangent 4 was highly anticipated by the SRC staffers and the Grid Tangent 4 has delivered without disappointment. It feels featherlight while providing just the right amount of stability. Saucony has truly out down themselves. When I put them on the first time, I was blown away by the way it slid right on and fit like a glove. After taking them on a running tour of Bayport I can say that the Tangent 4 is silky* smooth.
I have had my fair share of lightweight stability trainers and I can say with the most confidence that it is the best that I have owned. If you are looking for a lightweight trainer and have a medium arch with mild over pronation I would highly recommend you try on the Saucony Grid Tangent 4. You will not be disappointed by the way the sneaker feels.
