Congrats to SRC staff member Kyle Merber for breaking 4 minutes in the mile this weekend!  Kyle is a sophomore at Columbia and ran 3:58.52 at the Armory to win the Columbia Last Chance Mile.  We’re still investigating whether or not this is the world record for the indoor mile while wearing a headband.

If anyone is still looking for some great post-race Olympics coverage, check out Flotrack.com.  They have excellent video interviews of Olympic track and field athletes (especially American distance runners).

For anyone unfamiliar with the website: beware!  There are thousands of backlogged interviews which can easily consume an entire work or school day for a big track fan.

The Olympics are here and the start of Track and Field is just around the corner (8/15).  Check out the article about American Miler Lopez Lamong from the opening ceremonies to get your inner track fan ready for this week.

Unfortunately, Newsday seemed to have very little to say about Medford native Anthony Famigliett’s wire to wire win in the Olympic Trials steeplechase yesterday.  Luckily some other really great sources had more to say.  Check ‘em out:

The Olmpic Trials are almost upon us.  This could only mean one thing: LetsRun.com is holding a prediction contest!  For those of you not familiar with LetsRun, it’s a website updated daily by two brothers who also happen to be humungous running fanatics.  They post articles from all over the world and even write a few of their own, covering elite running and big time college and pro track meets.

LetsRun

Every time there is a particularly noteworthy meet or race they hold a prediction contest where they put up large sums of money as prizes for perfectly predicting the outcome of the event.  This time, there is a $280,000 prize up for anyone who can correctly choose the top 3 finishers in each event of the American Olympic Trials.

There is a new blog in town and it’s called “Once a Blogger.”  It’s got some interesting articles on various running topics, but the highlight is clearly the “Weekend Recap” which is written by SRC’s own Sean Hopkins.  It’s posted at the beginning of each week and details the best performances and results in the world of running.

So head over to Once a Blogger and let site author Geoff Decker (Hopkins’ former Marist teammate) know that more than just his mom reads the posts!
