Dunas WMFinally the cold and snowy winter has turned to warmth and blue skies. The spandex and fleece hoodies have been packed away and the shorts and lightweight long sleeves have taken their place. With that I also ditch my trainers after a run for a nice comfortable pair of sandals.

There is nothing like feeling of taking the trainers off after a long run or post race and slipping into a comfortable pair of sandals. My ideal pair of sandals is the Rider Dunas Sandal.

The Dunas is the perfect post run and everyday flip flop with classic styling and premier comfort. The EVA lined upper utilizes synthetic leather detailing and a fabric toe separator. The sole is made of a thin layer of injection molded Flexpand and topped with a cushioned waffle-textured EVA insole.Dunas Men

Reasoning:
The Rider sandals are made from EVA foam, this is the same foam that is used in high end running sneakers. The EVA foam is the ultimate in shock absorption which in turn makes it extremely comfortable. Whether it is post run or everyday use, I find myself in mt Rider Sandals all the time. The comfort I find in the Rider Sandals is unmatched by any other sandal or casual shoe.

Feel free to stop by the Sayville Running Company website or in person at the store to give the Rider Dunas Sandals a try.

For those of you who have never run the Aspire 10k I would highly recommend it. The course is a very challenging yet fair course. It has the right mix of uphills, downhills and flat fast sections. It is a race that every runner should get out and do at least once. I am sure that the other team members would back me up on that.

Suffolk County Half Marathon

The racing team took 4 out of the top 5 spots and 6 of the top 15. SRC racer Katie Dipietro, took the female overall honors and SRC staffer Mike Petrina took the male overall. Thank you to all the SRC racing team members that braved the horrible conditions and made it to the race to support the team and teammates.

You can catch the SRC racing team back in action on March 27th at the ASPIRE 10k in Plainview, NY.

When I was first introduced to idea of recovering from muscle soreness with a compression method I was skeptical. I had always been old school in regards to recovery. I would punish myself by sitting in a tub full of water and ice where the temperature read somewhere around 50 degrees Fahrenheit or I would wrap my legs in 4-6 bags of ice depending on how sore my legs were and just sit on the floor for 15-20 minutes.

It was probably a little over a year ago and I was in an adventure running store in New Zealand, they were having a massive sale. I wondered down the sock aisle and the store had a section for a variety of compression socks that were marked down 75%. I grabbed a pair to give them a try.  At this point what did I have to loose? If the socks didn’t work for me I would be back where I started, only now with an extra pair of socks.

I used them the first time after a 10k road race that was very hilly and grueling on my legs, especially the calves. I wore them the rest of the day and even slept in them. When I woke the next morning to my surprise my quads where still sore but my calves felt awesome. Right there and then I was sold on the idea of compression as a means of recovering from muscle soreness.

My products of choice are the R+R Piston 200 Tights and the R+R Knee High Socks by Sugoi. I now routinely use the socks after hard runs, workouts, and races. The tights are used for those days that I am feeling a little more sore then usual. All in all I have been extremely satisfied with using compression as a means of recovery.
